JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball went 2-0 Saturday, defeating York and Medgar Evers in straight sets at York College Gym.

AGAINST YORK
Sarah Lawrence raced out to a 14-7 lead in the first game en route to a 20-14 advantage. The Cardinals scored five unanswered points to get within one, but the Gryphons used a 5-2 spurt to win the set and take a 1-0 series lead.
In the second set, Sarah Lawrence jumped out to a 7-2 lead and did not look back for a 2-0 series edge. The Gryphons completed the sweep, opening up an 11-2 lead and continuing their offensive surge for a 25-9 victory.
Melanie Coleman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), the Skyline Rookie of the Week, paced the Gryphons with 15 kills.
Francesca LaRocca (Annapolis, Md./South River) posted four aces while
Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, Pa./Country Day Sch. of the Sacred Heart) finished with game-highs in assists (20) and digs (10).
AGAINST MEDGAR EVERS
Tied 3-3 in the opening set, Sarah Lawrence used a 15-4 run to pull away and take a 1-0 series lead. In the second game, the Gryphons jumped out a 16-6 edge en route to a 25-11 win. Looking to complete the sweep, Sarah Lawrence continued to impose its will, defeating the Cougars 25-15.
Coleman posted 12 kills, while LaRocca added five aces. Kilroy finished with 17 assists while
Lucy DeCarlo (New York, N.Y./The Calhoun School) totaled six digs.
