Anyia Scores Career-High 27 Points in 85-82 Overtime Win Over Maritime

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence College first-year Enike Anyia (Los Angeles, Calif./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) scored a career-high 27 points, including the go-ahead layup in overtime, to defeat Maritime 85-82 Saturday in a Skyline matchup at Campbell Sports Center.

RECAP
The Privateers raced out to a 17-4 lead in the opening half, fueled by 11 points from Brendan McGovern. Sarah Lawrence battled back, cutting the lead to single-digits, followed by a 9-0 run to knot the contest at 30 with 8:24 remaining in the period. The two teams traded baskets to end the half, sending both squads into the locker room tied at 39.

Much like the end of the second half, both teams continued to exchange blows throughout the final period, featuring four ties and five lead changes.

With 1:27 remaining in the second half, Maritime connected on a pair of free throws to take a 77-73 lead. Next Gryphons' possession, Austin Jones (Upper Marlboro, Md./Flint Hill School) hit a left-handed layup in the lane to cut the deficit to one possession with 1:04 to play. Following a Maritime miss, Anyia hit the game-tying basket with 17 seconds on the clock. The Privateers had an opportunity at the end of regulation, but failed to convert, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Anyia connected on a free throw to give Sarah Lawrence a 78-77 lead. Maritime answered with a three-pointer to regain the lead, but a layup from BJ Sanders (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) tied the game (80-80). The Privateers hit a pair of free throws to take an 82-80 lead with 3:25 remaining, their final points of the afternoon.

With 1:33 on the clock, Sanders hit another field goal to knot the contest at 82. With 48 seconds left, Anyia connected on the go-ahead layup, followed by a free throw from Malin Segal (Wenham, Mass./Concord Academy) with 19 seconds remaining to secure the Gryphon's second conference victory of the season.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMANCES
Anyia contributed three steals to go along with his 27 points and 13 rebounds, all career highs. It was the rookie's third 20-point effort of the season and his third double-double performance.

Jones finished with 18 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, a game-high seven assists and one block. Sanders posted his third double-double of the year, recording 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Segal posted 12 points, six rebounds, one assist and three steals, while Kaleb Robinson (Las Vegas, Nev./Deerfield Academy (Mass.)) added six points, five boards and three swipes.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action Tuesday (Jan. 16) at Mount Saint Vincent. Game time is scheduled 8 p.m.
