Men’s Swimming Breaks Four School Records in 117-30 Win Over Queensborough CC

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence men's swimming team had a strong start to its 2018-19 season on Saturday, breaking four school records on the way to a 117-30 victory over Queensborough Community College at Campbell Sports Center.

GRYPHONS VICTORIES
Sarah Lawrence broke three individual team records and one relay. First year Chaz Stafford had an impressive collegiate debut, winning all three of his races with record-breaking times.

Stafford was victorious in the 1,000 free, winning the race in 10:25.26, shattering the previous best of 11:06.09 posted by Albert Riley in 2014. The rookie also won the 200 back with a time of 2:07.51, beating the previous best of 2:15.71 set by teammate Anthony Lee in 2016.

Mani Roshandel set a new team record in the 200 breast with a mark of 2:23.25, beating the time of 2:23.37 set by Jack Chu in 2014. The first year was also the top swimmer in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.63.

The Gryphons set a new standard in the 200 medley relay, as a team comprised of Stafford, Roshandel, Miles Washington and Lee finished in 1:45.94, beating the previous mark of 1:46.08 set by Cameron Martinez, Dawa Lama, Lee and Jack Langland in 2016.

Lee was victorious in the 50 free, winning the race in 22.99. He was also the top swimmer in the 100 free, touching the wall in 53.47.

Washington took first-place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:44.23, while Jacob Ringo was victorious in the 500 free with a mark of 6:15.12.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the pool on Saturday (Oct. 27) to host the SLC/TYR Sprint Carnival at Campbell Sports Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
