BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Following a record-breaking performance at Mount Saint Mary, Sarah Lawrence first year
Chaz Stafford has been named Skyline Men's Swimming Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Stafford set a new standard in a first-place finish in the 1,650 free. The rookie touched the wall in 17:06.21, shattering the record of 18:23.11 set by
Albert Riley in 2014. The first year also broke his own record in 1,000 free during the competition.
Stafford has been sensational in his short time with the Gryphons, owning four school records, including the 500 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free and 200 back.
Stafford becomes the fifth Gryphon in team history to earn Skyline Rookie of the Week accolades, joining Riley,
Brendan McAlevy,
Anthony Lee and Sebastian Kleepe.
Stafford and the rest of the Sarah Lawrence men's swimming team return to the pool Friday (Nov. 16) for a Skyline tri-meet with St. Joseph's Long Island and Maritime.
