Jamaleddine Scores Career-High in Loss at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic used a late run in the second half to defeat the Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team, 69-60, Saturday at Franny Murray Court. It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Coming off his strongest offensive outing in Tuesday's victory at Yeshiva, Omar Jamaleddine had an even better afternoon against the Cardinals. The rookie finished with a game-high 24 points (10-17 FG), reaching double figures for the fourth time in five games The first year also recorded eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Enike Anyia posted his second double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and a new career high 14 rebounds.

Sarah Lawrence struggled to score in the opening minutes, missing its first six attempts, aiding a 7-0 Catholic lead. Jamaleddine scored the Gryphons' first points of the contest with 15:03 on the clock, sparking a 7-0 spurt to tie the contest with 12:47 to play in the first half.

Sarah Lawrence shot 22-percent from the field in the opening period. Catholic, a member of the Landmark Conference, capitalized on the Gryphons shooting woes, building a 25-14 lead with 5:13 to play in the period.

Despite the poor shooting, Sarah Lawrence played strong enough defense to keep the game in reach. The Gryphons limited the Cardinals to a pair of field goals over the final five minutes of the stanza, chipping away at the deficit to trail 29-21 at the break.

Catholic, coming off a win over Galludet, built a double digit lead over the first 3:19 of the second half for a 37-26 cushion. Sarah Lawrence did not give up, cutting the lead to single digits. The Gryphons battled to keep the contest within one possession on several occasions, including at the 3:10 mark, when Jamaleddine made a layup to make the score 56-54.

The Cardinals pulled away from there, scoring 10 unanswered points to extend the lead back to double figures (66-54). Catholic held on to the lead to secure its second straight victory.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 27), making its 2018-19 Campbell Sports Center debut against St. Joseph's Long Island. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
