Men’s Swimming Turns in Strong Performance at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's swimming team turned in strong results over the weekend at the two-day Hamilton Invitational at Bristol Pool.

TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
Chaz Stafford shined at the meet, winning three individual events. The rookie scored a total of 96 points for the Gryphons, tied for the most points scored for a male performer at the meet.

Stafford was the top swimmer in the 500 free, completing the race in 4:54.08. He won the 200 free in a field of 31 swimmers, touching the wall in 1:48.93, a season-best.

In the 1,650 free, the two-time Skyline Rookie of the Week honoree finished in 16:50.86, over 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, breaking his own school record of 17:06.21. Stafford also broke his own school record in the 1,000 free in the split with a time of 10:10.16.

Mani Roshandel lowered his school-record in the 200 breast. He finished fifth among 22 swimmers, clocking a time of 2:17.28, breaking his previous best of 2:23.25. The first year also had season best performances in the 100 breast (1:01.63) and 200 IM (2:05.89).

Anthony Lee posted three top-10 finishes. He finished sixth in the 100 free in 50.02, while taking seventh in the 100 fly in 55.97, a season-best. The senior also placed eighth in the 50 free (22.61), his best effort of the season.

Miles Washington scored for Sarah Lawrence in two events with season-best times, including the 100 fly (56.28) and 100 free (51.41).  

Mario Jerez had his strongest swim of the season in the 100 breast, scoring for the Gryphons with a time of 1:13.73. Harris Silcott turned in personal-best performances in two events, including the 100 free (59.59) and 50 free (26.03).

Jacob Ringo had his best meet of the season, posting season-best times in the 100 free (58.15), 200 free (2:06.18) and 50 free (26.24). 

Shaurya Chawla had his best outing, turning in season-best swims in the 100 free (1:10.68), 200 free (2:36.08) and 100 back (1:23.64). Sebastian Pizarro posted a personal record in the 50 free with a time of 34.35.

GRYPHON RELAYS
Sarah Lawrence broke school records in 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. In the 200 medley relay, a team of Stafford, Roshandel, Washington and Lee placed sixth with a time of 1:41.86, beating the previous best of 1:45.83.

In the 400 medley relay, the squad finished fourth of 15, completing the race in 3:44.73, shattering the previous standard of 3:49.53 set by Cameron Martinez, Dawa Lama, Lee and Jack Langland in 2016.
