PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sarah Lawrence College sophomore
Naima Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) broke the school record in the 50 yard freestyle Friday on the opening day of competition at the 2018 Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers Aquatic Center.

MACKREL BREAKS FREESTYLE RECORD
After qualifying for the finals of the 50 freestyle, Mackrel, the Skyline champion in the event, touched the wall in 24.24, a 0.28-second improvement from her time in the prelims Friday morning. Her mark beats the previous best of 24.39 set by Ariana Peschke in 2013.
GRYPHONS RELAY
In the 400 medley relay, a team of Mackrel,
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School),
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and
Andrea Corbin (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) turned in their fastest performance of the season, finishing in 3:48.57.
In the 200 yard freestyle relay, a team comprised of
Leah Myrtil (Boston, Mass./Elizabeth Seton Academy),
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento),
Rose Faccone-Stockwell (Red Bank, N.J./Ranney School) and
Caitie Adler (Pikesville, Md./Wilde Lake) qualified for the final event. In the race, the quartet finished in 1:54.24.
