Mount Saint Mary Gets Past Sarah Lawrence, 81-72

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College used a late second half push to defeat Sarah Lawrence College 81-72 Thursday in a Skyline matchup at Campbell Sports Center.

RECAP
Knotted at 17 in the opening period, the Knights used a 16-4 spurt to open up their largest lead of the contest (33-21). Sarah Lawrence cut the margin to seven with 1:53 left to go, capped off by a three-pointer from Malin Segal (Wenham, Mass./Concord Academy) (35-28). Mount Saint Mary countered, scoring the last five points of the half to take a 40-28 advantage into halftime.

The Gryphons chipped away at the deficit in the second half, using their post presence to outscore the Knights 25-11 over 7:06 to take their first lead since the 12:18 mark of the first half (52-51). The two schools traded baskets throughout the period, but a 5-0 spurt from the Knights gave them a lead they did not relinquish (70-65). Sarah Lawrence made it a one possession game with 5:04 left to play (70-68), but Mount Saint Mary finished the game on an 11-4 run to earn the season-sweep.

Four Mount Saint Mary starters finished in double-figures, including Tyler McDine, who posted a game-high 23 points.

GRYPHON PERFORMANCES
Enike Anyia (Los Angeles, Calif./Wilbraham & Monson Academy), the Skyline Rookie of the Week, finished with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, along with a team-high six rebounds and five assists.

Segal posted 20 points, five rebounds, one assist and a pair of steals, while BJ Sanders (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) totaled 16 points, five boards, three assists and one swipe.
 
Isaiah Pean (Spring Valley, N.Y./Dwight-Englewood) made all four of his field goal attempts in the contest, finishing with nine points and four rebounds, while Austin Jones (Upper Marlboro, Md./Flint Hill School) contributed seven points and a game-best seven assists. Luke O'Connor (Northport, N.Y./The Stony Brook School) added three points and three assists in the loss.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 13) at St. Joseph's Long Island. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
