FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College softball team wrapped up its season Monday with a Skyline doubleheader at Farmingdale State. The Gryphons lost the opening contest, 14-4, and the nightcap by a 9-1 margin.
TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Four Gryphon posted multi-hit outings, including
Baylie Petit (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) (2-for-5),
Tricia McLain (Redding, Calif./Enterprise) (2-for-5),
Riley Vuyovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) (2-for-5) and Skylar Vallarta (2-for-6). Petit finished with a pair of RBIs, while Vuyovich scored two runs.
Sarah Lawrence entered the day needing a victory to secure a berth in the Skyline Tournament for the first time in program history. Despite missing the postseason, the 2018 softball team will be one to be remembered, as the squad set team records for wins, home wins, conference wins, runs, stolen bases and RBIs.
Game 1: Sarah Lawrence 4, Farmingdale State 14
The Rams raced out to a 3-0 lead after plating three runs in the opening frame. Sarah Lawrence got a run back in the second, thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Tess Carrier (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes). Farmingdale State responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead.
The Gryphons did not go away, scoring three runs in fourth inning to get within two.
Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington) doubled down the left field line to score McLain, followed by a two-run double from Petit.
Farmingdale State responded in the bottom of the frame to secure the win, tacking on eight more runs.
Game 2: Sarah Lawrence 1, Farmingdale State 9
Sarah Lawrence scored its lone run of the game in the first inning, thanks to a single down the right field line from Vallarta to score Vuyovich.
Farmingdale State scored in the first four innings of play. The Rams scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third and three more in the fourth en route to a series sweep.
