PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence first-year
Chaz Stafford received Skyline All-Conference First Team honors in two events, leading the men's swimming team to a third-place finish at the 2019 Skyline Championships at Purchase Pool. In addition, head coach
John King was named Coach of the Year.
STAFFORD EARNS SKYLINE TITLES
Chaz Stafford was crowned Skyline Champion in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 10:05.66, six seconds faster than the second-place swimmer. Stafford's mark broke his own school record of 10:10.16 set at the Hamilton Invitational.
Stafford also received First Team honors in the 500-yard freestyle. The rookie won the race in 4:51.22, over four seconds faster than the second-place performer.
Stafford also scored in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing fifth with a mark of 2:03.95, a season-best. He also scored in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing seventh with a time of 1:52.56, a new personal-record.
KING NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR
King becomes the second coach this season to earn Coach of the Year recognition, joining women's soccer head coach
Maurizio Grillo. He also becomes the third Sarah Lawrence head coach all-time to receive Skyline Coach of the Year accolades.
RELAYS
In the 200-yard medley relay, Sarah Lawrence earned All-Conference Second Team honors, as the group of Stafford,
Mani Roshandel,
Miles Washington and
Anthony Lee were the runner-ups with a time of 1:43.12.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the group reached the podium with a third-place finish, finishing the race in 3:23.91.
TOP PERFORMANCES
Lee scored in four events for the Gryphons. In the 100-yard freestyle, Lee turned in a top five performance with a time of 50.28. The senior scored in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.11), 50-yard freestyle (23.26) and 100-yard butterfly (56.80).
Washington added to the Sarah Lawrence point total in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.56.
Roshandel had a strong performance in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing fourth with a time of 2:19.45. The rookie also scored in 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.09 and the 200-yard IM in 2:06.92.
Jacob Ringo posted a new personal record in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 2:06.32, nearly a three-second improvement.
