Women’s Swimming Breaks Relay Record on Day One of Metropolitan Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's swimming team began competition on Friday at the three-day Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers Aquatic Center.

RELAYS
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, a team of Drew Lei-Alerta, Eimile Briggs, Audrey de Szendeffy and Devon Peal qualified for the finals with a time of 1:47.02. In the final swim, the group turned in a time of 1:46.14, setting a new team record, surpassing the previous standard of 1:46.23 set in 2017.

In the 400-yard medley relay, a quartet of Peal, Andrea Corbin, Lei-Alerta and Briggs advanced to the final race with a mark of 4:18.70. In the finals, the squad lowered their time by five seconds with a mark of 4:13.69. Peal led the group with a lead backstroke split of 59.71, a personal-best.

NOTABLE GRYPHON PERFORMANCES
Lei-Alerta, the Skyline Rookie of the Year, qualified for the finals of the 200-yard IM, turning in a time of 2:14.50 in the prelims. The first-year swam in the 'B' final, finishing 16th overall with a time of 2:18.83.

Despite not qualifying for the finals of their respective event, Szendeffy posted a personal-record in the 500-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 5:46.87, nearly a three-second improvement, while Corbin recorded a new personal-best in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall in 2:29.62.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence returns to the pool on Saturday. Prelims are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m.
