Women’s Basketball Earns First-Ever #SkylineWBB Win With 65-63 Victory Over Yeshiva

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team earned its first-ever conference win Sunday, defeating Yeshiva, 65-63, at Campbell Sports Center.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Camryn Davis posted her fifth game of 20 or more points, scoring a team-best 26. The rookie also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Emmamazy Prior notched a double-double, scoring 19 points while grabbing 12 boards. Melanie Coleman finished with eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds, while Kaylin Yamada recorded eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The Gryphons turned in a gritty performance, using a strong half to pick up their first Skyline victory in program history on Senior Day.

Before the game, Sarah Lawrence Athletics and the women's basketball program honored its 2019 senior class of Prior and Taryn Penna.

It was a back and forth affair between the two squads, highlighted by nine ties and 11 lead changes.

The Gryphons led by a 43-38 margin in the third quarter, but 12 straight points from Yeshiva put them in front 50-43 with 3:23 left in the period. The Maccabees would take a 56-52 lead into the final quarter. 

Sarah Lawrence tied the game at 56 with 7:40 left to the play, thanks to a jumper from Davis. Yeshiva regained the lead with a field goal to go up 58-56, but the Gryphons answered with an 8-1 spurt to hold a 64-59 edge with 1:32 remaining.

Yeshiva countered with six unanswered points to cut the deficit to one with 44 seconds left to play. The Gryphons got a free throw from Prior with four seconds left to hold a one possession lead (65-63). Yeshiva had a look at the end, but was called for a turnover, securing the win for Sarah Lawrence.
