Men’s Basketball Suffers 69-61 Road Loss at Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team suffered a 69-61 road loss to Merchant Marine Wednesday at Liebertz Gymnasium.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Omar Jamaleddine posted his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 27 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. The sophomore also recorded four steals.

Enike Anyia finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the year, while BJ Sanders contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.

It was a back and forth opening half of play, featuring six ties and eight lead changes. Merchant Marine led by as much as seven in the frame (26-19), but seven straight points from the Gryphons knotted the contest, 26-26, with 4:23 to play. The two squads exchanged points to finish the stanza, capped off by a layup from Jamaleddine in the final minute to make the score, 32-32, at intermission.

The Mariners began the second half with a 3-point field goal, taking a lead they did not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. Merchant Marine built up a double-digit advantage (56-46) with 6:01 to play, but Sarah Lawrence used a 7-0 run to get within one possession (56-53) with 4:49 remaining in the game. The Mariners pulled away with six unanswered points, going on to secure the league victory.

Three players finished in double figures for Merchant Marine, highlighted by a 16-point effort from James Walsh.

Merchant Marine shot 46-percent in the victory, including 57-percent in the final half of play. Sarah Lawrence shot 39-percent from the field in the loss.
