SIlva Notches Clean Sheet, Lifting Gryphons to 2-0 Victory Over Maritime

YONKERS, N.Y. - Kian Silva recorded nine saves in a shutout performance for the Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer team as the Gryphons took down the Maritime College Privateers 2-0 on Saturday night.

The Gryphons got the scoring going early, jumping out to a 1-0 nearly 10 minutes into the contest. Julian Day hit a ball from well outside the penalty area that seemed to confuse the Privateer keeper, bouncing right over his head and into the net. Despite trailing in shots 6-2, Sarah Lawrence entered halftime up by one.

Maritime picked up the offensive intensity in the second half, controlling possession for the majority of the final 45 minutes. The Gryphons' defense may have bent a little, but it did not break.

Silva stopped everything that came his way. Peter Olszewski made strong tackles in crunch time and Nate Davis won every cross that came into the Sarah Lawrence box, thwarting any chance Maritime had of winning a ball in the air.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, Pacqui Pascual found Yusef Maftoon with a perfectly placed pass at the top of the Maritime box. Maftoon took a touch, then let it rip from nearly 20 yards out, beating the Privateer keeper upper-90 and cementing the final score.
