YONKERS, N.Y. –
Emma Floyd and
Lynn Rech both buried goals from outside of the penalty area, lifting the Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over The City College of New York Beavers on Wednesday night.
TALKING POINTS
- For Floyd and Rech, the goals marked the firsts of their collegiate careers.
- Lily Matalus set up the first goal with a perfectly placed lead pass to the right foot of Floyd who beat the Beavers' keeper high from about 25 yards out.
- Samantha Lungren was credited with the assist on Rech's goal. The sophomore midfielder found Rech at the top at the box. Rech turned and fired a strike towards the far post and past the opposing goalie.
- Maya Pfeiffer tallied her first collegiate shutout, stopping both shots that came her way.
- The Gryphons held possession 65/35, outshooting the Beavers 15-6.
FIRST HALF
The teams were somewhat even early on. The Gryphons held a slight 6-4 advantage in the shot category. Floyd entered the game around the 37-minute mark, making her presence felt almost immediately. Her goal came just before the half at the 42:14 mark.
SECOND HALF
SLC dominated possession in the second half, controlling the pace for the last 45 minutes. It did not take long for the Gryphons to build their lead. Rech's goal came right after the 54-minute mark. The Sarah Lawrence defense made it difficult for CCNY the rest of the way, allowing zero shots after the second goal.
