WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Sarah Lawrence college men's volleyball team began its 2022 campaign on Saturday afternoon, going up against the Kings College Monarchs. SLC fell in straight sets 3-0.
The match was close early on.
Nate Davis recoded two kills in the first five points of the set for the Gryphons. Up 7-6, Kings ripped off 11 straight points to go up by 12. The Monarchs used a 7-2 run to close out and take the first set.
The Gryphons led 8-6, receiving four kills from Davis. A 10-4 spurt from Kings gave the home team a four-point advantage. Back-to-back kills from
Kian Silva and
Nate Davis narrowed the gap to two. Kings ended the set on a 9-5 run, taking a 2-0 set lead.
The third set was the closest of the day. The Gryphons kept the margin within seven for the entirety of the set. A 3-0 Gryphons' run consisting of a Davis kill, a
Lukas Gates service ace, and a setting error made it 15-12 Kings. A 10-6 Monarchs' run ended the set and the match.
