Cadieux Scores Twice as Gryphons Defeat Old Westbury 3-1




FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – After falling behind 1-0 in the 54th minute, the Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer team buckled down and clawed their way back for a decisive 3-1 road victory over Old Westbury on Friday night.
 
Lainie Cadieux notched her second and third goals of the season with both being assisted by Lily Matalus to give the Gryphons a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
 
Cadieux's first goal was just shy of six minutes after Old Westbury netted the first goal of the game. Cadieux then put her team up for good at the 69:58 mark.
 
Matalus' two assists vaulted her into the team lead in the individual assist category.
 
Viktoria Balbin gave head coach Maurizio Grillo's squad an insurance goal just 2:03 later for what proved to be the final 3-1 mark. Balbin's goal was assisted by Cora Colvin.
 
Sarah Lawrence improved to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Skyline Conference while Old Westbury dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-3 on conference play.
 
The Gryphons dominated all facets of the game offensively having outshot Old Westbury 22-6 with a 12-5 shots on goal advantage and 9-0 in corner kicks.
 
Maya Pfeiffer scooped up four saves in net for Sarah Lawrence while Natalie Intrieri was pelted all night and forced to make nine saves for the Panthers.

The Gryphons will have a few days to recover before making the jaunt over to Throggs Neck, N.Y., to continue Skyline Conference play at Maritime College.
