Women's Soccer Wins Seventh Straight Skyline Game

YONKERS, N.Y. – Lily Matalus and Cora Colvin combined for three second half goals as the Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer team remained undefeated in the Skyline Conference with a 3-0 victory over St. Joseph's University-Long Island on Saturday.

The Gryphons (10-3-1, 7-0-0 Skyline) are just one of two undefeated teams in the Skyline Conference alongside Farmingdale State, who stands at 8—0 in conference action.

Today's contest between SLC and SJLI (6-4-2, 5-3-0 Skyline) got off to a rather ho-hum start as the Gryphons could not seem to get anything past the Golden Eagles' goalie Gloria Arango as she stopped seven shots on goal in the first half. Arango finished the contest with eight saves.

SLC was persistent and it eventually paid off at the 58:59 mark of the second half when Matalus notched her third goal of the season to give the Gryphons a 1-0 lead.

It took nearly 20 minutes of action to score again, but Colvin took a pass from Daniela Perez and pushed across an insurance goal past Arango at the 78:30 mark.

Colvin would hammer in the proverbial nail-in-the-coffin just 3:20 later unassisted and giving her nine goals for the season. Should Colvin score again this season, she will become just the ninth women's soccer player in SLC history to score at least 10 goals in a single season.

Bridgette Lee picked up with win in goal for the Gryphons. Lee saw her team's defense give up just three shots all afternoon with only two on goal.

The battle for first place in the Skyline Conference kicks off at 4 p.m. EDT on Tuesday when SLC journeys to Farmingdale State to take on the Rams. A Gryphons win means a tie for first with the Rams, but SLC would hold the tiebreaker. A win by the Farmingdale State would increase its lead to six points in the conference standing.
