NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Led by 15 points from First Year
Chris Dougherty, the Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team defeated the Mount Saint Mary's Knights by a score of 73-61. This was the first Skyline game of the season for the Gryphons, giving them a 1-0 conference record as they head towards the winter break. They Gryphons snapped a six game skid with the victory and look to carry the momentum from this victory into conference play.

How it Happened
Sarah Lawrence and Mount Saint Mary's traded baskets throughout the first seven minutes, with the Gryphons finding themselves leading 15-13. AnÂ
Eamon Kelly three-pointer would give Sarah Lawrence that 15-13 lead and would be the second basket in a 17-4 run that would help extend the deficit to double-digits with five minutes remaining in the half. An answer by the Knights would narrow the lead to four points as the first half came to a close, with Sarah Lawrence leading Mount Saint Mary's by a score of 29-25.
Brady Burman opened the scoring in the second half, converting from deep to put the Gryphons on the board just 18 seconds into the half. A three-point play by
Lucas Murray a minute later would bring the Sarah Lawrence lead back to double-digits but Mount Saint Mary's would answer once again, with two straight baskets to bring the lead back down to six. The two teams would continue to battle, with Sarah Lawrence slowly building their lead throughout the remainder of the half. After amassing a 17 point lead with four minutes remaining, the Knights refused to back down, scoring nine consecutive points to bring the margin back down to eight points with just under two minutes remaining. A layup from Dougherty and two last-minute free-throws from Torres would secure the win for the Gryphons as they held off the Knights by a score of 73-61 as the final buzzer sounded.

The Gryphons (2-7, Skyline 1-0) will return home for their final two games of the 2022 calendar year as the host Manhattanville on Saturday, December 10th at noon before welcoming Elmira on Tuesday, December 13th, at 7:00 p.m. Sarah Lawrence will look to remain unbeaten on Saturday as the matchup with Manhattanville will be their second Skyline contest of the season after facing an extremely tough non-conference schedule to open the year, including number one ranked Christopher Newport University as well as two Division One opponents.
