Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

MVB | Gryphons Grab First Two Victories of the Season, Sweeping Doubleheader with Valley Forge

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. Nate Davis of the Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball team tallied 45 total kills, leading the Gryphons to doubleheader sweep over the University of Valley Forge on Saturday afternoon. SLC defeated The Patriots 3-0 in both matches.

NUMBERS
  • Davis finished the day with 45 kills, tallying 23 in first match and 22 in the second. The sophomore also recorded 10 total service aces, 22 total digs, and two blocks.
  • Gabrielle Hegedus had 9 service aces in game one – the second most service aces in a match in program history. In game two, the junior had eight service aces – the third most in program history.
  • In game two, the Gryphons recorded 26 service aces – the second most in a match in program history.
  • Juan Paris set a career-high in assists in game one, recording 21. Paris followed that performance with 19 assists in game two.
  •  Ralph Calle-Schulz and Desmond Luck both set career-highs in points in game two.
GAME 1
SLC trailed 9-4 early in the first set. The Gryphons then scored five unanswered points, knotting the set at nine. Sarah Lawrence faced a 16-13 deficit then went on a 7-1 run, taking a 20-17 lead. SLC held the advantage for the rest of the set, winning 25-22.

The Gryphons used a set-opening 14-2 run to create an insurmountable deficit for The Patriots. SLC took the set 25-11. SLC led 10-9 in the third set then outscored Valley Forge 15-7 the rest of the way, earning a match-clinching 25-16 victory.

GAME 2
Sarah Lawrence was in a four-point hole in the first set, trailing 12-8. The Gryphons put together an 11-4 run, building a 19-16 lead. The Patriots cut the deficit to one, scoring points on the next two rallies, but that was the smallest margin for the rest of the set. SLC won 25-22.

With the second set tied at eight, the Gryphons scored 10 of the next 11 points, going up 18-9. SLC carried that momentum to the last rally, winning the set 25-15.

The Gryphons established a 19-5 lead, holding a large advantage the rest of the afternoon and winning the set 25-9.
