MBB | Gryphons Complete Season Sweep Over MSMC, Winning 67-62


NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Liam Barry netted a career-high 31 points for the Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball team, lifting the Gryphons to a 67-62 win against Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night. With the victory, Sarah Lawrence sweeped the season series against the Knights. 

NUMBERS
  • Barry did more than just score, securing 13 rebounds, four steals, and a team-high three assists. 
  • Justin Bailey had 11 points and 14 rebounds for his tenth double-double of the season. 
  • Lucas Murray was in double-digits for the second straight game, going for 11 points and 12 rebounds. 
  • Sarah Lawrence outrebounded MSMC 53-33. 
  • The win moved the Gryphons to a .500 record in conference play. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling down 5-0 early in the first quarter, SLC ripped off a 10-0 run, spanning three minutes and 28 seconds. Four different Gryphons scored during the spurt. Sarah Lawrence controlled the lead for the next eight minutes. MSMC evened the score at 18 at the 6:20 mark of the first half. Barry scored six of the Gryphons' final 13 points of the half. SLC entered halftime ahead 31-23. 

The margin stretched to double-figures quickly in the second half thanks to buckets from Xiyuan Zhang and Lucas Murray. The Knights outscored Sarah Lawrence 29-18 for 10 minute and 48 second stretch, bringing the game to within one with just over eight minutes left in regulation. Amos Grey finished a layup 30 seconds later, extending the lead to three. MSMC brought the game back to within one at the 6:31 mark. 

Josh Capellan scored on back-to-back possessions, making it a two-score game at the 5:29 mark. With just over a minute remaining, the Knights knocked down a jumper, making it 62-60 in favor of the Gryphons. Barry sank a layup on the next possession, then Zhang recorded a steal. Barry knocked down two free throws with eight seconds left, sealing the win.
