WVB | Gryphons Move to 3-0 Following Tri-Match Sweep Against Brooklyn College and Medgar Evers

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball team took home two victories, sweeping the tri-match with Brooklyn College and Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon. The wins moved the Gryphons to 3-0 on the season - their best start since 2019.

NUMBERS VS. BROOKLYN HOW IT HAPPENED VS. BROOKLYN
The Bulldogs built an early 4-1 lead. Three straight points from the Gryphons evened the set. Sarah Lawrence created separation later in the set. With the teams knotted at seven, SLC ripped off four unanswered points, getting a kill from Athena Kazos and a service ace from Davis Mathis during the run. The Gryphons did not trail for the remainder of the first set, winning 25-18.

After letting Brooklyn establish an 8-0 lead to start the second set, the Gryphons erupted for a 17-6 run and held a three-point edge. The Bulldogs shrunk the margin to two points, but SLC hung tough, holding the lead until the last point. Skyler Kawecki-Muonio capped the set with a service ace, solidifying the 25-21 win.

The teams were evenly matched throughout the majority of the third set, resulting in a 14-12 lead for the Gryphons. Brooklyn went on a 6-0 run from there and kept its foot on the gas for the rest of the set. The Bulldogs won 25-19.

The fourth set was also close. Neither team could create the significant gap to put the other away. The score margin hovered around three and four points for the entirety of the set. SLC held an 18-17 advantage then recorded three straight points. Brooklyn brought the set to within one point, making it 22-21 in favor of the Gryphons. SLC sealed the victory with three unanswered points, winning 25-21.

NUMBERS VS MEDGAR EVERS
  • Skyler Kawecki-Muonio led all players with six kills
  • Raegan Lacombe had a career-high five kills. The first-year player also had four digs.
  • Maddy Heavens had a team-high seven digs and eight service aces, both of which were career-highs for the first year libero.
  • Jane Joncha recorded 14 assists.
  • The Gryphons posted an attack percentage of .388

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MEDGAR EVERS
SLC won the first set 25-3. The Gryphons had an 8-0 run and then scored 15 unanswered points to take the set. Ahead 19-9 in the second set, Sarah Lawrence ripped off six straight points, winning the set 25-9. The Gryphons cruised to a 25-10 win in the third set, earning the match victory.
