NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's swim team competed in their first meet of 2023 and the last meet of their 2022-23 regular season as they took on Baruch and SUNY New Paltz on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Gryphons fell to SUNY New Paltz by a score of 42-62 and defeated Baruch 60-44. The Gryphons finish the regular season with a 13-4 record including just one loss to a Skyline opponent, USMMA which is undefeated in team events for the 2022-23 season.
The Gryphons had many top performers throughout the meet, but the team started off the match with a second-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, a race that the Gryphons have performed very well in all year. The team of
Genevieve Chiappetta, Katherine McKane,
Keilani Talma and Josie Laur earned a second-place finish to kick-off the match and each of the individual swimmers would go on to finish strongly in their own individual events.
Just two events later Chiappetta would bring home a first-place finish for the Gryphons in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle event while Laur finished fourth in the same event. First Year
Ella Hernan would be the next Gryphon to earn a top-three finish as she touched the wall 0.08 seconds behind the second-place finishing Kaetlyn Chavez from Baruch in the 50 SC Meter Backstroke event. Senior Katherine McKane earned the Gryphons their second first-place finish of the night as she touched the wall over a second before the next-closest swimmer in the 50 SC Meter Breaststroke event. The aforementioned Talma took home first place in the next women's swimming event as she finished the 100 SC Meter Butterfly in 1:12.20, narrowly edging out Baruch's Kira Chen.
Hernan would earn another top-three finish, this time finishing in second place in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle event. Chiappetta and Laur finished third and fourth in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle, with Chiappetta finishing just one second behind the second-place finisher. McKane took home another first place finished as she touched the wall with a time of 1:26.68 in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke just two events before Talma earned herself a victory in the 50 SC Meter Butterfly. The two swimmers would then take second and third place respectively in the 100 SC Meter Individual Medley event to earn another two top-three finishes for the Gryphons in a meet with numerous strong individual performances.
