Gryphons Secure First-Round Bye; Defeat SJ-BK Bears 5-0

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play and secured their first-round bye in the Skyline tournament with a 5-0 win on Saturday over the St. Joseph's Brooklyn Bears. The Gryphons saw goals scored by four different players in the shutout victory.

Top Performers
  • Hailee Duckrey opened the scoring in the 6th minute with her first score of the season
  • Hannah Chaffin followed that score up with one of her own just a minute later with an assist from Duckrey
  • Lilia D'Anna found the back of the net in the 75th minute for her first collegiate goal

How it Happened

The scoring got started early as Duckrey found the back of the net in the sixth minute and then found teammate Chaffin one minute later to give Sarah Lawrence an early two-goal advantage. The scoring would halt for the next 60 minutes of play, despite looks on goal from Cat Faville, Ava Warren, Grace Carter, Emma Mangan, Viktoria Balbin and Katey Beaver. After an own-goal by the Bears to extend the lead to 3-0, the Gryphons would get a free kick and off that kick, Madeline Moor would find Viktoria Balbin for her seventh goal of the season. Five minutes later Warren would find D'Anna for her first score as a Gryphon and give the visitors some added insurance for the final 15 minutes. Maya Pfeiffer saved two SJ-BK shots in the final eight minutes to secure the shutout.
