Beaver Scores Twice; Gryphons Shut Out Valiants 2-0

YONKERS, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of last year's Skyline semifinal matchup. First year Katey Beaver scored both goals in the contest, her sixth and seventh of the season.

Top Performers
  • The aforementioned Beaver opened the game with a score in the 6th minute and added an insurance goal in the 78th minute to seal the victory
  • Senior Samantha Lungren assisted Beaver on the first score of the game
  • Incumbent Skyline offensive player of the week Cora Colvin assisted on Beaver's second-half goal

How it Happened

Sarah Lawrence opened the game with an early goal and kept the pressure on the Valiants throughout the first half and the remainder of the game. The hosts totaled seven corner kicks in the first half alone while registering 14 first-half shots. Manhattanville found themselves in the offensive zone more in the second half, but the Gryphons still led in shots and corner kick opportunities, continuously applying pressure with Lungren, Colvin, Beaver and Madeline Moor all pressuring the goal on multiple occasions. Beaver found the back of the net for the second time late in the second half, as Colvin put a ball in the box for the first year, who finished the play for her seventh goal of the season, making a case for earning a second straight Skyline rookie of the week award.
