Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gryphons Head to Albany for Division One Exhibition

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team trekked North to Albany, N.Y. to take on the division one Great Danes of the University at Albany on Monday night. The Great Danes finished tied for first in their conference last season and look to repeat this season.

Top Performers
  • Senior Kendall Haymore led the team in scoring, totaling 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks
  • Kaila Dorch tallied two blocks as well in addition to scoring seven points and pulling down five rebounds

How it Happened

The Great Danes jumped ahead early and did not look back, outscoring the Gryphons 33-9 in the first quarter and maintaining their lead throughout the contest. The lead was maintained the entire way as six Albany players were in double-digits by the end of the contest, led by lilly Phillps with 18 points.

An early 8-0 Albany lead looked to get things out-of-hand early but the Gryphons showed some resilience, fighting back to bring the score to 8-7 thanks to two made jumpers by Haymore and a Khailand Anderson-Strawder three-pointer off a Colleen Coughlin assist. Albany held the SLC offense in check for the remaining six minutes of the quarter, allowing just a Coughlin jumper for the remainder of the period. The Great Danes remained ahead as they outscored SLC 68-10 in the paint while scoring 53 points off of turnovers by the Gryphons.

Up Next

The Gryphons return to division three action with a Thursday night home matchup with the Yeshiva Maccabees, their first Skyline contest of the season. The Gryphons and Maccabees will tip-off at 8:00 p.m.at the Campbell Sports Center as the Maccabees look to build upon their 2-0 start in conference play.
