How it Happened

The Gryphons started strong, with a Kaila Dorch layup and two Coughlin three-pointers to take an 8-5 lead. A pair of Anderson-Strawder free throws and an Ariana Spanopoulos triple extended the lead to 13-5 before a 13-0 run gave Widener a five-point cushion with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Dorch would score on back-to-back possessions after a Christina Reilly steal, but Widener's Gianna Samuels ended the quarter with five straight points, putting the Gryphons in a six-point deficit at the end of the period. The second quarter was all Widener, scoring 11 of the first 12 points of the period and building up a 25-point lead by the time the game reached halftime.

The third quarter was highlighted by a triple from Reilly as well as a three-point play by Dorch but the Gryphons fell behind as Widener took a 40-point lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter saw SLC outscore their opponent 13-12, led by nine of Coughlin's 17 points as well as back-to-back fastbreak layups by Anderson-Strawder
