How it Happened
The Gryphons held the Rams to 17.5% shooting throughout the whole game, forcing 15 turnovers to prevent the Farmingdale offense from gaining any momentum. The first quarter was a relatively low scoring affair for both sides, but the Gryphons would clamp down on the Farmingdale offense and hold the Rams to just six points in the period, taking an early 11-6 lead after ten minutes of play. The second quarter was a very similar story as the Rams managed eight points, but the Gryphons scored 15 on 3-of-7 shooting from deep to carry a 26-12 lead into the halftime break.
The Rams offense would show some signs of life in the second half, but they would continue to struggle shooting the ball. Despite going 1-for-10 from the field, Farmingdale ended the third quarter outscoring the Gryphons 14-13 in the period thanks to 16 attempts from the free-throw line. The final quarter would see the Gryphons pull away, shooting 45% from the field and converting on 5-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line to hold onto the lead throughout the final period of play.
The Gryphons (8-15, Skyline 6-12) finished the season positioned in eighth place in the Skyline conference, but set program-bests for both overall wins and conference wins. Despite the loss of three impactful seniors, the Gryphons will look to build off the successes of this season in the 2023-2024 campaign.
