PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After a second-place finish at the Skyline Swimming and Diving Championships on January 29th, the Sarah Lawrence swim team traveled to Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. for the Metropolitan Swimming Championships from February 16th through February 18th. The Gryphons finished in 11th place overall with a total of 237 points while Skyline Rookie of the Year
Keilani Talma and the Gryphons' lone senior,
Katherine Mckane, both set new school records in individual events.
Talma became the third Gryphon to win the Skyline Rookie of the Year Award and continued her impressive performances in the pool by setting the school record in the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:57.89. The first-year finished in fourth place overall in the event after a seventh-place finish in prelims. Talma also competed in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in second place in the B final with a time of 59.88. In the 200 yard butterfly, Talma would win the B final with a time of 2:13.92, adding to her outstanding weekend and overall season.
McKane ended her senior season on a high note, finishing 12th in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.93. She also competed in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in 13th place with a time of 2:31.19. McKane's best finish came in the 400 yard individual medley where she broke her own school record with a time of 4:45.57 en route to a first-place finish in the C final.
The Sarah Lawrence relay teams also placed well at the event, securing a 12th place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay, a ninth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay and 11th place finishes in both the 200 yard and 400 yard medley relays.
The Gryphons have now completed an extremely strong 2022-23 season, finishing the regular season with a 13-4 team record and just one loss to a conference opponent, eventual Skyline champion Merchant Marine. The Gryphons finished behind just the Mariners at the Skyline championships last month, handedly defeating the remaining teams in the conference. At the Metro Championships, the only Skyline team with a better finish than Sarah Lawrence was Merchant Marine, who placed third overall. The Gryphons finished over 100 points ahead of Maritime and Mount Saint Mary, the only other two Skyline teams to participate in the event.
