Gryphons Force 14 Turnovers Against Valiants

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Another impressive scoring effort from Justin DiFabio led the Gryphons offensively, but after 40 minutes of play it was the Manhattanville Valiants who claimed the win by a score of 72-57. The Gryphons have three regular-season games remaining this season as they sit at 4-9 in Skyline play.

By the Numbers
  • DiFabio led the Gryphons with 17 points in his second game since January 11th
  • Eamon Kelly scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds for Sarah Lawrence
  • Amos Grey added 10 points, dished out three assists and swiped three steals

How it Happened

The first half saw the Gryphons keep close to the Valiants, as neither team was able to pull away by more than three points until 6:49 remaining in the half as Manhattanville's Jake Dunn hit a free-throw to extend his team's lead to four. The two teams would remain close for the remainder of the half and a DiFabio three-pointer in the final minute of the period would reduce Manhattanville the lead to just three points with 20 minutes of play remaining.

The second half saw the two teams combine to score 82 points, with both offenses coming alive after a relatively calm first half. The Gryphons capitalized on their trips to the free-throw line, converting on 16 of 19 attempts while the Valiants did their damage from the field, shooting 53.6% in the half. The first nine minutes of the half saw the teams remain close and with 10:56 remaining Derek Hickman converted two free-throw attempts to bring the Manhattanville lead down to four points. It would be the final half of the second period where Manhattanville would pull away, using 26 second-half points from Jackson Leech and Tommy Lotito to secure the victory after a close-fought first half.
