NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's tennis team took on the Mount Saint Mary Knights on Monday night in Newburgh, N.Y. as both teams were in search of their first victory of the 2023 season. The Knights would take the match by a score of 5-4 with two very close matchups going their way to give them the victory.
The Gryphons fell behind 1-0 in singles but
Clayton Miller and
Simon Kopecky would both win in straight 6-0 sets against their respective singles opponents and
Nikita Knecht would win from the third singles flight by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Peter Fathi would take the first set 7-5 but would fall 5-7 and 2-6 in the second two sets as the two teams would each take three singles matches.
In doubles, Miller and Kopecky continued their impressive play this season as they shut out Mount Saint Mary's Matthew Ropiack and J.T. Maccarrone to take the first singles match by a score of 8-0. The second doubles matchup would be the closest of the day as
Vance Johnson and Knecht found themselves in a nail-biter against their MSMC opponents. The duo from Sarah Lawrence would end up falling by a score of 8-7 including a 7-5 tiebreak that awarded the Knights another victory.

The Gryphons (0-5, Skyline 0-4) will return to action on Tuesday when they host York College (NY) for a non-conference matchup at Andrews Courts on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College.
