PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team traveled to Purchase, N.Y. to take on the Skyline-leading Manhattanville Valiants who now own an impressive 10-0 record in conference play. The Gryphons fell to the conference-leaders in both games by scores of 14-0 and 13-0.
By the Numbers
- Shirin Pechefsky took the loss in a complete-game effort in game one, walking just two and forcing nine fly outs
- Isabella Zuniga took the loss after throwing two innings in game two, allowing nine hits
- Kristin Vargas drove a hard ground ball through the left side to give the Gryphons their lone hit in game two
How it Happened
The pitching from the Valiants kept the Sarah Lawrence offense from creating any momentum, as Charli Shinstine and Samantha Walsh combined for five no-hit innings, with
Anna Brand being the only Gryphon to reach base via a walk to lead off the fifth inning. Brand would steal second with two outs but it would not be enough as the Gryphons would be retired before she would have a chance to score.
In game two, the Manhattanville pitching would continue their success from game one. Vargas's aforementioned third inning single would be the only base-hit for Sarah Lawrence while Pechefsky and Brand would each reach base via walks. The Valiants would be propelled offensively thanks to a seven-run first inning followed up by six more scores in the next frame.
