Women's Basketball 2022-2023 Season Recap

7.13.23

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team completed their 2022-23 season with program bests in both overall and conference wins. The team finished the season with an overall record of 8-15 and a mark of 6-12 in conference play. The Gryphons earned an impressive win against St. Joseph's Long Island at home on February 6th and closed out the year with a dominant 19-point victory against Farmingdale State in Farmingdale on the 14th.

Team Leaders
  • Kendall Haymore led the team in scoring and rebounding while totaling 14 double-doubles, the eighth-highest total in all of division III. The junior also finished the season second in the Skyline in field goal percentage and third in free throw percentage, shooting 53.3% from the field and 69.0% from the line.
  • First Year Colleen Coughlin had an impressive all-around campaign for Sarah Lawrence, setting a single-season program record for three-point field goal percentage and finishing third in the conference in that category as she knocked down over 30% of her shots from long range. The first year also led the team in assists, finishing fifth in the conference.
  • Fellow first year Kaila Dorch was an anchor for the Sarah Lawrence defense as the Bronx, N.Y. native totaled 31 blocks, which ranked third in the conference and set the program's single-season record in the category.

The Gryphons started the season 2-2, with victories at home against Bard and Farmingdale State as Haymore led the way with two of her 14 double-doubles. Haymore would continue her play as Coughlin, Dorch and sophomore Kumi Tamura all would help the Gryphons take a 4-5 record into the winter break after defeating Pratt Institute and St. Joseph's Brooklyn in December, beating the Cannoneers by 30 and the Bears by just two. The team emerged from the break with a dominant 66-38 victory over Old Westbury in which Haywood and Dorch earned double-doubles to lift the team to a semester-opening win. The team faced a string of tough away matchups but would rebound well and end the season winning three of six, including the program's first victory over St. Joseph's Long Island on February 6th, led by 15-point efforts from both Coughlin and Haymore and five blocks by Dorch. The Gryphons finished the season with a 19-point victory over the Rams of Farmingdale State, as senior Jordyn Medina totaled 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals, stepping off the floor as the program's all-time leading rebounder. Medina, along with fellow seniors Ana Srdanovic and Demitra Loukopoulos ended their respective careers helping bring about the two winningest seasons in program history and all three players find themselves as regulars in the program's record book. The team will certainly notice the loss of the three contributing graduates, but the program and head coach Bradley Alexander will look to compete once again in 2023-24 with valuable experience under the belt of impactful first years Coughlin and Dorch and a senior leader in Haymore who will look to build off her historic 2022-23 season.
