Gryphons and Dolphins Draw in Skyline Top-Two Matchup

BRONX, N.Y. - The Skyline's preseason number one and two teams faced off on Wednesday as both teams opened conference play. The Gryphons and Dolphins were the top two seeds in last year's conference tournament as well.

Top Performers
  • Viktoria Balbin led the Gryphons with five shots, including three on goal
  • Goalkeeper Bridgette Lee tallied four saves on five opportunities for the Gryphons

How it Happened

The Gryphons struck first, as a corner kick by Balbin found its way into the goal in the ninth minute, giving the visitors an early advantage. The Gryphons remained in the lead for 20 minutes until Mount Saint Vincent's Caitlyn Thompson scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Alicia Rodriguez. The two teams remained knotted at one goal apiece from that point on, despite 10 shots for the hosting Dolphins in the second half.

Up Next

The Gryphons (3-3-2, Skyline 0-0-1) will return to action on Saturday, September 20th when they host the Knights of Mount Saint Mary for a 3:00 p.m. Skyline matchup.
