Gryphons Head to Patchogue for Skyline Matchup with Golden Eagles

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team headed to Patchogue, N.Y. on Thursday evening for a matchup with the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's Long Island. The Gryphons fell by a score of 48-78 to the hosting Golden Eagles at the end of regulation.

Top Performers
  • Ariana Spanopoulos scored 12 points for Sarah Lawrence, connecting three times from deep and pulling down six rebounds
  • Khailand Anderson-Strawder scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Gryphons in scoring
  • Josie Kent scored four points off the bench for SLC while also notching a steal

How it Happened

The Gryphons opened the game on a 10-3 run, using a key triple by Spanopoulos to get ahead early. They stayed ahead as another make from the sophomore brought the score to 13-6 just over halfway through the quarter. A 9-2 SJLI run to close the quarter was answered by a last-second layup by Kent to keep the Gryphons ahead and the visitors entered the first intermission with a two-point lead. The second quarter saw the Golden Eagles get rolling on the offensive end, out scoring the Gryphons 27-7 in the period while connecting on 60% of their shots in the period.

The second half saw the Golden Eagles play similarly to the second quarter, maintaining a steady lead and keeping the Gryphons from gathering any momentum. Late-game scores by Spanopoulos, Anderson-Strawder and Christina Reilly would not be enough to pull the Gryphons within striking distance and at the final horn the Golden Eagles earned a 78-48 victory.
