Atherley's Score Propels Women's Soccer over UMSV for 1-0 Victory

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at Fleming Field. Sydney Atherley's first-half goal proved to be the difference, as the Gryphons' defense held firm to secure their ninth win of the season.

Notable Performers
  • Sydney Atherley netted the game's only goal in the 29th minute, her third of the season, following a well-placed assist from Cora Colvin.
  • Viktoria Balbin led the Gryphons with six shots, two of which were on target, keeping the Mount Saint Vincent defense under constant pressure.
  • Goalkeeper Bella Vaca recorded her fifth clean sheet of the season, making two key saves in the second half to preserve the win.

How it Happened

Sarah Lawrence dominated possession from the start, creating several early chances. The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Atherley found the back of the net, converting Colvin's assist off a free kick to give the Gryphons the lead. Balbin came close to doubling the lead on multiple occasions, but Mount Saint Vincent goalkeeper Javiera Sanchez made several important stops to keep the score at 1-0 going into halftime.

Mount Saint Vincent applied more pressure in the second half, but the Gryphons' defense remained resilient. Vaca made two critical saves, including a stop on a dangerous shot from Alicia Rodriguez in the 79th minute. The Gryphons continued to create opportunities of their own, with Balbin and Katey Beaver both coming close to adding a second goal. Despite late pressure from the Dolphins, Sarah Lawrence held on for the 1-0 victory.
