BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence College swim team had a strong performance at the Gryphons Sprint Carnival on October 19, 2024. The Gryphons defeated William Paterson, Brooklyn College and Purchase College to sweep the event for the third consecutive season.
The meet saw numerous standout efforts by the Gryphons, including the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay, where the team of
Ella Hernan, Eva Guarda-Vazquez,
Keilani Talma, and Kirsten Eads claimed first place with a time of 2:05.03. In the same event, the team of
Julia Maecker,
Sonjia Armitage,
Amelie Burg, and
Mckenzie Shaffer-Kay finished third in 2:21.10 andÂ
Linda Kelly, Allie Abemayor, Juliet Delap, and
Ava Greengrass recorded a time of 2:47.94.
In the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle, Hernan placed second with a time of 2:12.27, while Greengrass finished fourth in 2:34.09. The Women's 50 Yard Backstroke saw Eads finishing second in 31.33, with teammates Shaffer-Kay and Armitage finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. In the Women's 50 Yard Breaststroke, Guarda-Vazquez placed second with a time of 36.83, followed by Maecker in third with 37.87, and Abemayor in eighth. Talma delivered a top finish for the Gryphons in the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly, winning with a time of 1:04.44, while Kelly placed third in 1:26.24.
The Gryphons also excelled in the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle, where Burg placed second with a time of 28.10, just ahead of Guarda-Vazquez in third with 28.15. Shaffer-Kay finished sixth in the event. In the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle, Talma narrowly missed first place, finishing second with a time of 59.34, and Greengrass placed fourth in 1:10.41. In the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke, Hernan placed second with a time of 1:07.41, followed by Armitage in fourth and Kelly in sixth. The Gryphons also dominated the Women's 50 Yard Butterfly, with Maecker taking home first place in 30.40, followed closely by Eads in second and Burg in third. In the final relay events, Sarah Lawrence continued to impress. The team of Talma, Eads, Hernan, and Burg won the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:50.50, while Greengrass, Kelly, Delap, and Abemayor finished third in 2:20.83. Overall, Sarah Lawrence swimmers put forth a series of strong performances, contributing to an exciting and successful meet.
