Sarah Lawrence Athletics Inducts 2024 Hall of Fame Class

11.21.24

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Sarah Lawrence College Athletics proudly inducted their Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Saturday, November 16th. A total of four inductees were honored in an intimate ceremony at the Campbell Sports Center that kicked off the weekend's homecoming festivities. Sarah Lawrence College President Cristle Collins Judd and Athletic Director Kristin Maile both spoke at the ceremony that saw former coaches, teammates and family member return to Bronxville to celebrate the honorees.

Kevin McCarthy '02

McCarthy was a member of the Sarah Lawrence Equestrain team during his time at SLC, riding under the instruction of Head Coach Lori Rakoczy. After graduating, McCarthy continued to compete at horse shows, working at top barns in California as both a riding instructor and horse trainer. He then returned to his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska and began his return to competitive riding.

Currently, McCarthy spends his time between Lexington, Kentucky and Wellington, Florida, finding success in the 1.35 meter amateur division at some of the most competitive horse shows in the country. When not showing, Kevin is involved in nonprofit work back in Omaha, working on an affordable housing initiative and also promoting accessibility in public space. He also serves on the board of Film Streams, Omaha's nonprofit cinema.

Dr. Clarion Johnson '72

Dr. Clarion is a current member of Sarah Lawrence's Board of Trustees who served as captain of the men's basketball team throughout his time as a student. He was named student body president during his time at Sarah Lawrence and was a student member of the SLC General Committe, remaining involved on campus in a variety of ways throughout his time at the school. Dr. Johnson was also a member of both the Committee on Student Work and the Black Student's Association before graduating and moving on to attend Yale University's School of Medicine, earning his Master's Degree in 1976. On the basketball court, Dr. Johnson's main contributions were assisting teammates, primarily Marco Fleischer, and grabbing rebounds, a skill set that many current-day coaches would envy in any student-athlete.

Graham Gilleran '17

Gilleran was the first 1,000 point scorer for Sarah Lawrence's Men's Basketball program, totaling 1,002 points as a Gryphon. Graham is a frequent-flyer atop the SLC men's basketball leaderboards, ranking highly in career points, assists, blocks, steals, minutes and rebounds, currently sitting fourth in points and top-three in all other categories mentioned. He was named an HVIAC Rookie of the Week, a member of the 2014-15 Skyline All-Sportsmanship team and found himself on the Skyline Academic Honor Roll as well. At various points throughout his four-year SLC career, he lead his team in points, scoring average, free-throw percentage, field goals made, rebounds, steals and blocks, with a program-best career total of 134.

After graduating, Graham returned to SLC and was an assistant coach for one season (2018-2019) where he helped the program to its first-ever Skyline Playoff appearance. He currently works as a Talent Aquisition Coordinator for WebPT in Portland, Oregon.

Joseph Ionnatti '82-'20

Ionnatti was a member of the Sarah Lawrence Athletic Department Staff for 38 years, serving in a variety of roles, most notably as the Head Coach of the school's Men's Basketball Program. Ionnatti also coordinated the physical education program while leading intramural sports and a wide range of the school's athletic programs throughout his time here.
