Women's Volleyball Battles Bard through Five Sets in Regular Season Finale

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team fell to Bard College in five sets on Friday night, ending their 2024 regular season. The Gryphons will head to Farmingdale State College on Tuesday, November 12th for the Skyline Tournament First Round, a rematch of last year's first round matchup that went to the Rams in five sets.

Notable Performers
  • Athena Kazos led all players with 18 kills and added 20 digs for another double-double
  • Georgi Massey racked up 34 assists and 12 digs for a double-double of her own
  • Kaille Ferguson put up 20 digs as well for SLC

How it Happened

The Gryphons got going early, taking the first four points of the match and carrying that momentum to a 25-20 first-set victory. A pair of early aces by Massey and late blocks from Carolyn Kelly, Milly Guemple and Jenna Lehnhart helped the Gryphons get out to their early lead. The Raptors would respond to tie the match at one set apiece, using a pair of late-set kills by Annika Flittie to secure the 25-23 victory and prevent the Gryphons from earning a two-set advantage. The third set was another close affair, finishing with a 26-24 scoreline in favor of the Gryphons thanks to a kill by Guemple and a set-sealing double block by Kazos and Lehnhart. The fourth set, as expected, went the way of the Raptors, who used a double block and a kill by LaeAnna Riley to seal the set and send the match to a deciding fifth set. A pair of service aces by Nikolet Vataj and one by Massey a few rallies later gave SLC an 8-2 lead, but after switching sides, the Raptors took seven of the next eight points to tie the set at nine points apiece. Kazos and Vataj would each register an additional kill, but another kill by Riley and a Bard ace would seal the deal late in the set, giving the Raptors the non-conference victory.
