BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence swim teams celebrated a trio of seniors on Saturday during their tri-meet against Division II Pace University and Herkimer Community College. The Gryphons honored
Eva Guarda Vazquez, Josie Laur and McKenzie Shaffer-Kay during the meet for their contributions to the SLC swimming program.
Familiar faces found themselves atop the results for the Gryphons, as all-conference swimmer
Keilani Talma led the team with a pair of individual event wins in the 50 freestyle and 200 butterfly. The junior from Barbados also contributed to a second-place relay team in the 200 medley. On the men's side,
Patrick Rau earned wins in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestlye while helping SLC to a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay.Â
The Gryphons had a trio of standout first years on the women's side, as Amelie Berg, Kirsten Eads and
Julia Maecker all racked up a pair of top-three finishes. Eads won the 200 I.M. before earning second place in the 200 backstroke to round out her individual performances. Maecker finished behind only the aforementioned Talma in the 50 freestyle and later earned another second-place finish in the 500 freestyle, excelling in both the short- and long-distance events. Berg earned two personal bests, finishing third in the 100 freestlye in just over a minute after a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle to lead all SLC swimmers. On the men's side, first year
Jonas Ellwanger joined Berg in setting a pair of personal bests, doing so in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and earning top-five finishes with each swim.
