Top Performers
  • Kristin Vargas reached base three times, including a two-hit game in the day's second contest and scoring one of SLC's two runs on the day
  • Anna Brand also reached base three times, highlighted by a single in game one
  • Shirin Pechefsky pitched 8.2 innings, striking out eight and walking just five batters

Game 1: John Jay def. Sarah Lawrence 21-0

The Bloodhounds benefitted from a three-run homer by Jailene Santiago in the top of the first and added on another run to take a 4-0 lead into the second frame. A quiet opening frame for the Gryphons allowed the visitors a chance to build on their lead, which they did in the top of the second. Three home runs, including a grand slam by Santiago, highlighted a 13-run inning for John Jay, but Pechefsky would take the mound and retire the first two batters she faced to end the inning. Brand opened the next inning with a single and Heather Yung got a single of her own three batters later, but a strikeout ended the inning and stranded both runners. The Bloodhounds would wrap up their scoring with four more runs thanks to a 2-RBI double and another home run. Both teams would find themselves unable to score for the remainder of the contest, with Pechefsky stranding three John Jay runners in the top of the fifth to keep them off the board. The Gryphons went down in order in the bottom half of the inning to secure a shutout victory for the visitors

Game 2: John Jay def. Sarah Lawrence 22-2

The Bloodhounds once again got ahead early, putting up 10 runs in the first inning thanks to seven hits and a pair of SLC errors. Vargas opened the bottom half of the inning with a double to left field, advancing to third later on a wild pitch. After back-to-back strikeouts, a passed ball allowed Vargas to dive home to score SLC's first run of the day. Brand reached base via a walk before the inning would end and the Bloodhounds returned to bat. Two doubles and a home run brought the score to 13-1 by the end of the second as the Bloodhounds extended their lead. The Gryphons opened the second inning with two straight walks and after Perry Yun moved both runners into scoring position, Mary DeSouza would score on a wild pitch to give the Gryphons their second run of the game. SLC would remain scoreless as the Bloodhounds added on nine more runs in the later innings, with a last-inning single by Vargas not being enough to add to their score.
