Miller Wins in Tiebreaker as Gryphons battle Cannoneers in Flushing

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's tennis team fell to the Pratt Institute Cannoneers by a score of 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. The two teams faced off at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, the home of the US Open.

All three doubles pairs for SLC suffered hard-fought losses, with Simon Kopecky and Devin Derian falling 8-2 in the first flight before Clayton Miller and Leon Bronshvag fell in the second flight with an identical scoreline. Aidan Roney and Vance Johnson played the closest doubles match of the day, falling 8-3 to their opponents from Pratt.

In singles play Miller was the lone Gryphon to win, taking a victory in the first flight in three sets. The sophomore and reigning second-team all-conference selection fell behind 6-1 before taking two straight sets by scores of 6-4 to seal the victory. Bronshvag was the other Gryphon to go to three sets, winning the first 6-1 before falling to Pratt's Ryan Nelsen 6-1 and 5-7 in a heartbreaking tiebreaker. Team captain Nikita Knecht celebrated his birthday during Saturday's match, playing in an exhibition match at the USTA National Tennis Center.
