BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's tennis team took on the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's Long Island on Sunday, falling 6-3 after taking a pair of doubles victories and a win at second singles.
The doubles pair of
Simon Kopecky and
Devin Derian earned a victory at first singles, defeating their opponents from SJLI 8-7 after a 10-8 tiebreaker. The pair was joined by
Peter Fathi and
Aidan Roney who took home a victory in third doubles by a score of 8-6. In the second flight,
Nikita Knecht and Chloe Cohen teamed up but were unable to complete the sweep of doubles play, falling 8-4 to the pair from St. Joseph's.
In singles play, the Golden Eagles took close victories at first, fourth and fifth singles.
Simon Kopecky fell 6-4, 4-2 in the first flight before
Devin Derian took a third set victory in the second flight. The senior kicked off the day with a 7-6 win before falling 0-6. He then took the tiebreaker 10-4 to secure SLC's lone singles victory.
Nikita Knecht fell 6-3, 6-1 before
Peter Fathi fell in a heartbreaking 10-8 tiebreaker set in the fourth flight. His doubles partner, the aforementioned Roney, fell 6-3, 7-5. Cohen fell in straight sets to close out singles play as Derian's victory would not be enough to maintain the slight advantage that the Gryphons took in doubles play.

The Gryphons (1-7, Skyline 0-5) will return to action on Monday night as they host Lehman College at 5:30 p.m. in a rescheduled match from March.
