BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team fell to the Bears of St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Sunday morning by scores of 14-0 and 16-0. Seniors
Mary DeSouza and
Anna Brand each tallied a hit for SLC, but were both left on base as the offense was stifled by the SJBK pitchers.
Top Performers
- The aforementioned DeSouza and Brand each broke up a no-hitter with singles down the right-field line
- Bella Zuniga reached base twice in game two, walking in both of her plate appearances
- Shirin Pechefsky and Zuniga combined for all 10 innings, with Zuniga striking out four batters and Pechesky striking out one
How it Happened
The Bears jumped ahead 3-0 after the first frame in both contests, with a two-run home run doing the damage in game one and an RBI double and two RBI singles leading the way in game two. Game one saw three more four-baggers as the Bears built up a 12-0 lead after two innings and tacked on two more in the fifth on a pair of SLC errors to bring their lead to 14-0. In game two, a wild pitch and an RBI single would give SJBK a 5-0 advantage after two, but a quiet third inning saw Zuniga retire the side in order and keep the lead to five. A two-run homer and a double would follow up in the fourth before five hits and a handful of SLC errors allowed the Bears to score eight times in the fifth frame to take a 16-0 lead. A 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth would wrap the game up and give the Bears two more Skyline victories.
