PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's tennis team completed its 2024 season on Wednesday evening after travelling to Manhattanville University for a matchup with the Valiants. The Gryphons fell 9-0 to the hosts, with junior
Peter Fathi losing in a heartbreaking tiebreaker after three extremely close sets.
The Valiants swept doubles play with three 8-0 victories, as
Simon Kopecky and
Leon Bronshvag fell in the first flight,
Devin Derian and
Aidan Roney in the second and seniors
Samu Gabor and
Vance Johnson did so in the third. In singles play Kopecky, Derian, Bronshvag and Gabor all fell in straight sets before Fathi took the court in the fifth flight. The junior fell behind 5-7 in the first set before a 7-6 victory including a 7-5 tiebreaker, to tie the matchup. The third set was exceptionally close, with Manhattanville's Thomas Hitchcock taking a 10-6 tiebreaker victory, the closest match of the day for the Gryphons. Roney played his opponent close in the sixth flight, falling 5-7 and 3-6 and securing the 9-0 victory for the hosting Valiants.
