How it Happened

Game one saw a close contest break open in the later innings, with a 2-0 score heading into the third as the Dolphins shut down the SLC offense while scoring two first-inning runs on a trio of hits. The third inning saw UMSV turn four hits into two more runs before back-to-back extra base hits and an SLC error extended the lead to 6-0 in the fourth. After holding the Gryphons scoreless again, four more hits turned into four runs for the Dolphins and granted them a victory after five innings.

Game two saw a first-inning outburst by the Dolphins put them ahead 8-0 and threaten to win another shortened game. Four more runs came in the second for UMSV as they continued to find holes on the field. In the bottom of the second, the Gryphons used back-to-back hits by Brand and Zuniga to put runners on the corners before a Sonia Saha ground ball turned into a double play for UMSV but allowed Brand to score, the first Gryphon to cross the plate on the day. Hansberry tripled in the next at-bat but a groundout would end the inning and strand the first year at third base. After replacing Shirin Pechefsky late in the previous inning, Zuniga held the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the contest, allowing just one hit in over three innings of work in one of her best performances of the season. The Gryphons would also stay off the board for the remainder of the game, allowing the Dolphins to take another five-inning victory.
