Men's Soccer Shuts out Bard in Second Half of Non-Conference Bout

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team opened their 2024 home slate with a Tuesday-night matchup against Bard, falling 1-0 to the Raptors after a first-half score.

Top Performers
  • Elijah Shohat played the whole game in goal, allowing one score and making four saves
  • Dean Brown led the Gryphons with two shots on goal after scoring the game-winner last week
  • Eloy Pampin and Asefa Thome also put shots on goal for SLC, with Bard's keeper making saves

How it Happened

The Raptors started pressuring the SLC defense early, testing Shohat with two shots on goal and two corner opportunities in the first seven minutes. A free kick right at the top of the box would give the Raptors an opportunity in the tenth minute and Emmett Olson would put the ball in the right corner for the eventual game-winner, scoring past the diving Shohat to open the scoring and give the visitors an early lead. The Gryphons would get a good look by Thome in the 17th minute, but it would miss just barely left of the goal and the Raptors would regain control. The Raptors would get their next best look of the half in the 36th minute, hitting the woodwork on a Brandon Alchy shot. The second half would be quiet to start, with no shots registered until a 58th-minute look for the visitors forced Shohat to make another save. Brown would put his pair of shots on goal in the 72nd and 81st minutes, both being saved by Bard's Julian Landau. Thome would put his shot on goal in the 85th minute, forcing Landau to make another save before the final buzzer rang and the visitors departed Yonkers with a 1-0 victory.

Up Next

The Gryphons (1-3) will return to action in Yonkers on Friday as they host NJCU for another non-conference matchup at Fleming Field.
