How it Happened

The Gryphons applied pressure to the CCNY defense early, with Katey Beaver getting off two shots in the first 10 minutes and forcing Laila Issa to make a save early. SLC's Ava Warren and Chaffin would both register shots as well, with Chaffin putting the ball on goal and forcing another early Issa save. The next shot for either team would be by the Gryphons, as Chaffin would find Colvin for the two-time Skyline Offensive Player of the Year's first goal of 2024. The Gryphons would put just one shot on goal for the remainder of the half, as a Madeline Moor shot would be saved in the 30th minute before heading into the halftime break with a one-goal advantage. As the second half began, a corner kick opportunity by the Beavers would eventually end in a CCNY goal, as a crowd in front of the goal would result in a score by Isabel Osorio. After the ensuing kickoff, the Gryphons would answer back, with Chaffin finding Barker for a score less than a minute later. After a few errant shots on both ends, Chaffin would get an opportunity to score for herself after assisting on the previous SLC scores. She would find a gap and put the ball in the back of the net in the 60th minute for an insurance goal, giving the hosts a 3-1 lead. In the 68th minute, Chaffin would get another look at goal, but a save by Issa would kick the ball out to Carter, who would score for the first time this season and extend the SLC lead to 4-1. Chaffin would put the lone remaining shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but another CCNY save would keep the Gryphons from adding to their lead. The Beavers would not register a shot over the game's final 35 minutes and despite six additional SLC shots following Chaffin's 72nd-minute look, the 4-1 scoreline would hold through the end of the contest.
