Jackson Remains Undefeated in Singles Play as Women's Tennis hosts Lehman

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's tennis team fell to Lehman College on Thursday night by a final score of 6-1. The Gryphons earned wins in third doubles and third singles but the Lightning would take the remaining matchups to secure the victory.

The Gryphons would fall at first and second doubles, losing the doubles point, but the duo of Rebecca Stearns and Hiba Ruiz would take third doubles 6-3 to get some momentum moving for SLC. In singles play, the Lightning would take the first flight handedly before Zoe Kovac battled in a three-set matchup at second singles. Kovac took the first set 6-2 but Lehman's Caroline Lopez would battle back and take the ensuing pair of sets by 6-3 scores. Josey Jackson secured SLC's lone point of the match, winning another three-set battle 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at third singles. The Lightning took fourth and fifth singles in straight sets before Stearns's sixth-flight matchup as the first year battled back from a first-set loss, winning the second set 6-3 and forcing a tiebreaker. Lehman's Shelby Gonzalez would win the tiebreaker 7-3 to claim the sixth point of the day for the visitors.

The Gryphons (1-1) will return to action on Sunday, September 15th as they take on Baruch at 1:00 p.m. The match will be played at Queens College as the Gryphons look to return to the win column before starting conference play.
