QUEENS, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's tennis team traveled to Queens on Sunday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. matchup with the Bearcats of Baruch College. The Gryphons fell 7-0 to the Bearcats with their closest matchup being a 6-4, 6-3 singles battle in the fifth flight.
Doubles matches kicked off with Ava Deguzman and Natalie Bergman from Baruch dominating the #1 Doubles match, defeating
Neomi Spellman and
Josephine Jackson from SLC with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory. In the #2 Doubles, Baruch's Aishika Yadav and Maria Calvo outlasted
Zoe Kovac and
Rebecca Stearns of SLC in a similar manner, winning 6-1, 6-0. The Bearcats' dominance continued in the #3 Doubles, where Jacqueline Moreno and Maria Rojas overpowered SLC's
Hiba Raiz and
Melody Diaz, sweeping the match 6-0, 6-0.
The singles portion followed a similar pattern, with the hosts continuing their dominance. In the #1 Singles, Ava Deguzman maintained her winning form, defeating Spellman 6-0, 6-1. The #2 Singles saw Natalie Bergman breeze past Kovac with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 result. Aishika Yadav from Baruch kept up the momentum in the #3 Singles match, triumphing over Jackson 6-1, 6-2. Maria Calvo further extended the Bearcats' success, winning the #4 Singles against Raiz with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 scoreline. In the #5 Singles, Jacqueline Moreno faced a bit more resistance but still secured the win, defeating Stearns 6-2, 6-4. Finally, in the #6 Singles, Maria Rojas finished the day for the Bearcats with another comfortable win, beating Diaz 6-1, 6-0.
